The Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) is a yearly visit with a primary care provider (PCP) to create or update a personalized prevention plan for Medicare beneficiaries. It’s a fully covered benefit to increase preventive care by helping prevent illnesses based on current health conditions and other patient risk factors.

In the context of value-based care, AWVs are associated with improved clinical care quality while reducing healthcare costs. In this case study, we examined the relation between AWV and the trend
of healthcare costs for ER and hospital admissions among Medicare beneficiaries.
